Ominous Horizons Walkthrough

In the Village:

The first thing you want to do is talk to Guttenberg. Find his shop and enter. He will tell you what has happened and what you must do. Now go find the priest in the church. The priest will have a weapon leaning against the alter right behind him. Take the sword and listen to what the priest has to say. Now go back and re-visit Guttenberg. He will tell you to enter the training area, through the door behind him. When you go through the door, you'll have to crouch down to crawl through the little tunnel to the left. In there you'll see some pits you have to jump across. Get a running start and hit the jump button just as you reach the edge of the floor. Once you cross all three pits, jump up on the barrels to reach the upper level. Now walk down the stairs and into the water. You'll have to use the 'forward' button to swim forward. If you have to, use the forward button and look up to swim up and get a breath of air. You will see another little tunnel you'll have to swim down to and through. Now point up and swim to get out of the water. Once you're out you'll see some targets. Get your sword out and shoot the targets (in any order). Once all three stationary targets are down, three moving targets will appear. Shoot them all by leading them with the crosshairs. Now the door to the right will open and you can proceed through it. In here are some sliding beams you'll have to walk through. Once you make it, follow the hall and it will lead you back into town to the shopkeeper’s area. Once through the door to the shop, the shopkeeper will hand you the Cross of Hope. Take it by walking into it. Now you'll have a little cross icon at the lower left corner of the screen. This keeps track of your faith or 'health'. When the Cross of Hope is depleted, the game is over. You can recharge the Cross of Hope by picking up scrolls along the way by simply walking through them. If your faith is full, you cannot walk through the scrolls. Now, head back out into town and directly across from Guttenberg's shop are three doors leading into the barn stalls. Go into the door on the left and behind the hay bails you will see a ladder heading down into the sewers. Go down the ladder. Work your way through the sewers, across the water and up another ladder to find the Shield of Faith. Now, back the way you came. You'll see a key on the floor, pick it up and head to the right instead of the left. This will lead you to another little door. Go through the door and you'll find yourself in the tavern's cellar. Walk up the stairs and into the tavern and the barkeep will thank you for finding his key and hand you your first power-up. Pick it up by walking into it. Now, head back to the priest. He will tell you about the stolen Bible and how you can get the missing pieces. To the right of the main door into the church is a door that leads to the cellar. Walk down the stairs to the cellar and into the first portal, which will take you to Mesa Verde.

Mesa Verde:

When you enter the mesa, walk up the ladder that is slightly to your left. Walk forward and go up the next ladder in front of you. Now turn left and enter the building. Walk down the hall till you see a ramp heading up. Go up the ramp and jump down the hole. In the hole is a tunnel. Take the tunnel to go inside the mountain. (You'll fight sand golems and bats in the caves). Walk up the hill, turn left and go up another hill. At the top there will be two ways to go, straight or right. Go right and jump down to the next level. If you follow the tunnel, it will lead to an Indian Chief sitting by a campfire. Get close to him so he'll talk to you and ask you to perform a favor for him. If you take the ramp to his left and follow it up, you'll find some arrows. Take them now even though you don’t' have the weapon for them yet. Head back out to the first fork you encountered. This time go straight. It will lead to another bigger cave. Fight the golems and take the other tunnel out of that room. You'll find some water, jump in and swim down and follow the tunnel underwater for a little while. Swim up at the end and you'll exit the water and find yourself in another tunnel. Follow the tunnel until you exit the mountain and are back in the mesa. Climb the ladder and at the top, follow a ledge to the left and across a wooden beam to enter the next cave area. Follow the cave until you come to another fork. Go straight and jump down into the water to collect some more arrows. Climb back out and go back to the fork. Take the other path this time and you'll see a little dude jumping up and down saying something to you. When you get close, he causes an avalanche that seals that path off from you. If you jump in the water and swim left, you'll see a piece of armor you can collect (boots). Grab those and jump back in the water, now swim down the long tunnel and get out of the water at the end. Follow the tunnel to the left and it will open into a room with an old wood bridge. Jump down below the bridge and crouch into the hole in the wall. In there you'll find your first Angel who will take your sword and upgrade it. Crouch back out of there and climb the path to get out of the pit. Follow the tunnel across the bridge and it will open into a bigger room with a campfire. Cross the room and take the next tunnel. Follow the tunnel until you get to the other side of the avalanche the guy caused. Follow the ramp up to the left and you'll get to another bigger room. If you look to the right inside that bigger room, you'll see a ramp you can climb up and it will lead to the artifact the Indian Chief told you about. Grab it and return to him, back-tracking your steps. The Indian will give you a power-up cross that you can add to your inventory. Take it and get back to where you found the artifact. When you're back in the bigger room, follow the other tunnel out and it will take you back to the mesa. Walk across the plank and out onto a roof top. Go across another plank onto another roof top. Now jump down to your left onto yet another rooftop. You can jump up from down there to get inside one of the buildings. To your left, the little guy is back and he pulls a ladder up, forcing you to choose another route. Go out the window in that room and follow the little ledge to your left. That will take you inside another building. Climb the ladder inside the building to go up one floor. Follow the tunnel in that room, and go across the ledge into another building. In that building is another ladder, take it and you'll see the third entrance into the mountain. Go in there and up the ramp. Follow the tunnels until you get to a drop-off with water below. Jump down and across the water to land on a ledge. Follow that tunnel till you come to a room slightly flooded with water. Turn to the left and follow that tunnel and up a steep slope to the left. At the top of the slope, and in the little room you'll find the crossbow that uses those arrows you've collected. Pick it up by walking through it. This is the wind tunnel and when the wind is blowing, you cannot go up the tunnels. Wait until the wind dies down then run up the ramp and hide right next to the torch until the wind dies down again. Run up the ramp further and hide beside the next torch you see until the wind dies down again. Up one more ramp and beside one more torch until the wind dies down. Now run down the tunnel and hide beside the last torch until the wind dies down again. Run further down the tunnel and up the final ramp and you'll see the night sky. At the top, the Thunderbird will attack you. The best way to defeat him is to have five holy arrows notched up, and shoot him at close range when he charges you. Defeat him and grab the book piece he drops, this will activate the portal you see up there and take you back to the church. In the church, run up and talk to the priest who will open a portal to the next area. Run back down into the cellar of the church and into the next open portal. That will take you to Egypt.

The Sphinx:

When you first enter Egypt, you'll be outside, next to the Sphinx. If you head to your left (the right side of the Sphinx), you'll find a quiver of arrows. Grab it and head back up near the portal. If you look at the columns of the building, you'll see a section of one is discolored. Bump into it and it will open up revealing a secret switch. Hit the switch and look down in-between the paws of the Sphinx to see a hatch has opened. Go down inside the hatch to enter the Sphinx area. Follow the path down and to your right. Jump down into the hole and go into the room with lots of pillars. Walk to the middle of the room and the pillars will fall down. Don't get hit by them. Collect the arrows in the room and see where one of the pillars has crashed through the wall. Walk across the pillar and into the hall behind the wall. Follow it to the next piece of armor (helm). Jump back down into the hole and go through the pillar room again. Follow the hall until you see a doorway to the left. Go straight for now, climb the ladder down and collect the ammo below. Climb back up the ladder and this time turn right at the doorway. Go down the sloped hall and the wall in front of you will open up. Jump down into that room and open the third coffin. Jump down into the coffin to find another hallway. The wall down there will open up and reveal a big room with spikes in the walls. Run into that room and jump in the water before the walls collapse in on you. Underwater, turn to the right and bump into the discolored portion of the wall. Go through the opening and jump out of the water into a little room. On one of the walls there is a switch you need to bump into. Jump back in the water and swim all the way down the hall, turn right and jump out of the water. Turn to your right and collect the arrows then turn around and follow the hall to the end. Climb the ladder and turn left. Walk down the hall and you'll see the little guy jumping up and down again. This time he'll release a bunch of scarabs on you. Kill them and follow the hall again. When you get to the room with the big statues, go in the second door on the left. That will take you to the next level. Follow the hall and when you come to a fork in the road, go straight and follow that hall. You will reach a point when a gate falls down in front of you and behind you, blocking your way. Bump into the little gate in the wall and crouch down into the little tunnel. The tunnel leads to another room. Jump down into the room and go through the torn down wall to your left. Climb the stairs and jump out of the sarcophagus. Follow the tunnel to your right to find some more arrows, and then retrace your steps and this time follow the other tunnel. Walk up the ramp and look to your right. You'll see a long hall with holes in the floor and spikes in the ceiling. Run down the hall, sticking to the left wall and just keep running. You should make it to the end before the spikes get you. Keep following the path until you see a ladder. Climb the ladder and you'll see yet another hall. Take a few cautious steps and you'll see a swinging ball coming at you. Back up until the ball passes over head then run down the hall as fast as you can before the swinging ball hits you in the back. Turn left and proceed to the door on the left. Open the door and jump down into the room. There are two doors and some alcoves with statues in them. If you bump into the opposite wall of the alcoves, a secret passage will open up revealing a ladder. Climb the ladder to find the angel who will upgrade your sword. Jump back down the hole and take the open door into another room. This room has a pyramid in the middle with holes in the ceiling. Hit the button on the pyramid and wait for the sand to fill the room. The hole directly above the button you pushed is the only way out. Ride the sand up through that hole and climb the ladder. You'll see a wall with a picture on it. Hit the wall and it will open, follow the hall and jump down in the room. Grab the Bible piece and jump through the portal to the church. Go speak to the priest again and he'll open a portal to the next area, a Scottish Castle.

The Scottish Castle:

When you first enter this area, take the door to your left. Turn right in that building and open another door. Follow the stairs up to the next level and open the door. Open one more door and you'll see an Angel that will upgrade your sword again. Leave that room and jump down to your left. Take the route to your left and you'll come across an old barn. Enter the barn to find some ammo and a new weapon, the staff. Follow the courtyard around and come to smaller courtyard. You'll see a troll sitting on a box. Talk to him and he'll tell you his story. Go through the opening to the left of the troll and take a right. This leads to the castle walls. Take a left and you'll see a doorway, go through it and follow the hall. At the end of the hall is a switch. Hit the switch then head back out to the castle gates. They're now open. Go through the gates and turn either right or left. Either way will take you to the front of the castle. You must kill four of the archers (use your crossbow) before the main castle doors will be unlocked. Enter the castle. Turn to your left and down the steps you'll see the little guy again, taunting you. If you try to chase him, hidden spikes will kill you. Instead, turn right and follow the rooms, always taking a left. You'll eventually find a hallway with three arches in the left hand side and a staircase to the right. If you hit the wall in the third arch, it will open. Take the stairs down to collect your third piece of armor (gauntlets). Go back up the stairs and take a right. Follow the same rooms around until you see a room with a narrow red tapestry on the wall. Take the hall opposite the tapestry to head upstairs. Up a few flights you'll see an ominous looking black knight with gold trim. Talk to him and he'll try to get you to join his side. Defeat him, and then head back out to the troll. The troll is now returned to his original form, the king of the castle. He'll reward you with another power-up cross. Go back up to where the black knight way and enter the door on the left. Climb the stairs and you'll see a big set of wooden doors. Open the doors to enter the room and you'll find Grendel. Grendel is tough; he has three attacks, clawing at you, cracking the floor open under your feat and screaming to cause the ceiling to fall down on you. The best way to defeat him is to notch up five 'freeze' arrows and hit him at close range. This will slow him down enough for you to pound him with your other weapons. Keep wearing him down this way and he'll eventually go down for good. Defeat Grendel to open the doors on the other side of the room. Go through those doors and collect the third Bible piece. Jump through the portal back to the church and talk to the priest, who will again open the next portal.

Japanese Fortress:

When you first enter the level, you'll be facing a building and a staircase. Walk up the staircase and turn right to enter the second door you come to. Inside the building, either turn left or right, both will take you to the same place. In here you'll see the little guy who's up to no good, and he'll sick some ninja demons on you. Go up the staircase in this room and turn to your right. Go through the door on the top floor and take the second right. Follow the corridor down some stairs until you come to a T. Turn right and go through the door. Follow this corridor around and back up some stairs and you'll come into a room with lots of wooden beams in the ceiling and several doorways out. Take the hall to the right and you'll come to the next Angel who will again upgrade your sword. Go back out into the beamed ceiling room and take the second right. Down the stairs and back up another set of stairs and you'll be in a maze room. The lightly colored walls can be opened. There and two ways out of the maze, one will take you outside to the back courtyard and the other will take you upstairs to the attic. If you can, find the way up to the attic, this will lead you to your next piece of armor (leggings) and also to the back courtyard. Once in the back courtyard, follow the path around until you come to the Pagoda. Enter the pagoda and you'll find it's a three dimensional maze. Make you way around finding the sets of stairs to take you up. Once you reach the top you'll see the Bible piece from this area and picking it up will activate the portal back to the church. Visit the priest and he'll open the next portal.

Mayan Temple:

The mayan temple is tricky, with lots of fairly difficult puzzles. You'll start outside the temple and if you wish, you can run around and check out some of the back corners of this area to find hidden ammo. When facing the temple from the portal, go inside the outdoor building to your left and you'll find the next Angel and sword upgrade. Climb the stairs of the temple and go inside the room at the top. In here you'll see nine rings in the floor and a globe at the ceiling. Step on the blocks from the most inside to the outside in order. That will open the globe and drop down the next armor piece (bracers). Now, climb back down the steps toward the building where you found the angel. To your right is an opening that will take you inside the temple. Enter the temple into a room with two statues. Push the button on the left wall and go through the doorway it opens. Step into the next room and hit a button on the wall straight in front of you and a button on the wall to the right. Another door will open and step through it and then turn to your right. In there is another little room with another button on the wall straight in front of you. Push that button, then turn around and go through the final door to push a final button on the wall straight ahead. Now, back out until you get to the room with the two green statues, turn to your right, follow the corridor and you'll come to a room with six gears and a control panel. Walk up to the control panel. If you look you'll notice there are six levers on the control panel. Facing the control panel, the levers can be numbered one to six (left to right). Hit the levers in this order and do not hit any other by accident; 6, 3, 5. The gears will line up and the mini temple on the floor will slide away revealing a hidden passage. Take that passage into a big room with a lever on the far wall. Hit that lever and the big stone block in the center of the room will open up revealing five blocks suspended by ropes. Shoot the ropes in any order, but one or two at a time since each block falling will open two doors, letting loose two enemies. When all the ropes are shot, an exit door will open. Follow the ramp up into a room with a pit in the middle. Turn hard right and notice an opening in the wall covered with vines. Go through the opening and up the stairs. You'll see a large boulder at the top. Push the boulder and it will fall down onto a pressure plate that will extend a bridge across the pit. Walk back down and cross the bridge. There are three stone pictures on the wall to your left. One of them has a crystal on it. Shoot the crystal to reveal a secret stash of scrolls and ammo. Now, hit the button on the wall, and a door will open right above the bridge you extended. Go into that room and on the ceiling you'll see another puzzle. This is a tile sliding puzzle, and the objective is to shoot the tiles and put the picture back to its starting state. Once you do that, two doors will open; one will lead to some ammo and the other to a ladder. Go up the ladder and open the door directly across the hall. If you look down into this rather large room, you'll see one of the pieces of the Bible. Jump down into the center of the room and the Bible piece will disappear, one of the walls will crumble down and a giant serpent will be let loose on you. Defeat the serpent and a secret door will open up revealing a portal taking you to the Mayan observatory. The serpent is tough and you'll need to notch up some freeze arrows to slow him down. Pound him while he's slowed and avoid the acid rain and poison steam. Step through the portal and climb the stairs in front of you. You'll see several crystals in alcoves along the wall and a button. Push the button and a hatch will open up. The light from the moon will shine through a crystal in the window and create a laser that will bounce from crystal to crystal until it reaches a jewel in the center pillar. You need to bump into the crystals to turn them. Keep turning them until the laser bounces to the next crystal. Continue lining up the crystals until the laser hits the pillar in the center. This will open the pillar and reveal the Bible piece from this area. Grab the Bible piece and climb back down the ladder and into the portal, taking you back to the church. Speak to the priest and he'll open the portal to the next area.

Haunted House and Stonehenge:

You'll start out this level outside the haunted house. Enter the front door and turn to the right. Go through the dining room and into the kitchen. Take the stairs up one level and walk directly across the hall at the top of the stairs and bump into the wall. The wall will slide away and reveal a hidden passage where the last Angel is located. Upgrade your sword there then look around the level. When you find the library, climb the staircase to the second level and to the right you'll find a book sticking out of the wall. Push the book in and jump down quickly to the first floor. You'll see that a section of the bookcase has moved aside revealing a hidden passage. Take that passage and enter the 'ballroom'. Up near the stage is a picture, hit the picture and the button behind the picture to open a pit in the floor that will take you to the basement. Down in the basement is an evil altar. Shoot the altar to destroy it and go through the door that opens up. Go back to the front door of the house, and instead of going right into the dining room, take the left route in the main entrance area. Don't take the staircase; instead, take the hallway to the left of it on the first floor. Follow the hallway around until you get into some rooms. In one of the rooms you'll find two doors next to each other. One is locked and one is not. Take the stairs down one flight next to the locked door and you'll see the little guy again. This time, he helps you out and drops the key to the locked door. Go back to the locked door and go through it. This passage will take you to the armor. Get the armor, jump down onto the main floor and head back to the kitchen. Climb the stairs in the kitchen again and look through the rooms until you find a room that has a fireplace with a little shovel leaning against it. Hit the shovel and secret panel will open up. Take this passage up a few flights of stairs and through some big double doors. This will lead to the balcony with the portal that will take you to Stonehenge. When you enter Stonehenge, it looks peaceful enough. Collect scrolls to fill your faith and pick up all the ammo you can before entering inside the circle of stones. Near the center is an altar with a Bible piece next to it. As soon as you pick up the Bible piece, the Greater Druid is unleashed and he is tough. Have five holy bolts notched up before picking up the Bible piece. Take the Druid out as fast as you can or he'll summon lesser druids to help him out. Once he's defeated, exit the level through the portal leading back to the church. Once back at the church, the little guy shows up again, and will tell you his story. He'll also give you the last piece of your armor set (belt). You should be fully upgraded with your sword and fully loaded with your armor. Talk to the priest and he'll open up the final portal, leading to Satan's Lair. The priest will also reveal his true self, and give you a set of keys (on the altar behind him). The keys will open up various cabinets around town, providing you with ammo and a few power-up crosses. Load up then head to the basement of the church again to enter the final level.

Satan's Lair:

Walk through the lava filled caves of Satan's Lair until you reach a big pool of lava. In the middle of the pool is the tip of his castle which will rise out of the lava and allow you to enter, once you defeat Satan in his first form. Satan in his first form is not too tough; do enough damage to him and he'll take off, raising his castle from the lava. Enter the castle via the cut scene. You'll be looking at a dragon's head, and a set of doors inside his mouth. Those will be the doors you use to exit this level once you've completed your task. Satan's Castle has five levels to it, and you need to sink each level back into the lava to reach the next level. In the first level, there are three wheels which must be turned in the proper sequence to get the lava rising. Walk through the tunnel behind the Dragons head and turn to your left, climb the ladder and walk across the catwalk to climb the second ladder. Once on the second catwalk, follow it to your right and it will lead you through a little tunnel and to the first of the three wheels. Turn the wheel then head back through the tunnel. If you exit the tunnel and look directly across the room you'll see another tunnel. You'll have to jump across the little platforms to reach the second tunnel. Once you've jumped over there, go through the tunnel and turn the second wheel. Turn directly around and face the tunnel you just came from. To the right of it is a little ledge you can walk up and follow the catwalks around to reach the third wheel. Once you turn the third wheel you'll have approx. thirty seconds to exit before the lava engulfs you. Follow the catwalk back down to the second wheel. To the left of the wheel is another little ledge. Follow it along the wall to the stairs, then climb the stairs and out onto the balcony in the main entrance room. From here you can see the dragon's head and you'll have to jump down onto the stairs leading up inside it. Open the doors and stand on the floating platform. The lava will rise and take you to the second level. Enter the second level and turn to your left. Turn right in the next room to follow the corridor. Follow the corridor, across the steaming grates, and then take a right. Go straight through this room and up the circular staircase. Up here you'll see three big fans spinning. If you get too close to the fans, they'll suck you in and shoot you down into some lava. Take the only exit from this room (besides the staircase), and follow it around to your right. When you reach the end of the corridor you'll see an eyeball on the wall. You'll want to use your crossbow for this next part. Shoot the eye, and then another eye down the end of the hall will open up. You must shoot an arrow through the rings (arching it), to shoot the second eye. When you hit the second eye, the fans will stop. Run back to the fan room, and behind the left most fan is a wheel. Turn the wheel and head back to the lava elevator as fast as you can. Stand on the platform again and the lava will rise, taking you to the third level. Entering the third level, turn to your left and follow the path out into the main room. Take the stairs up and across the opening then down another flight of stairs, and up one directly beside them. Once you cross the little tunnel with the steam coming down, the lava will start to rise. You need to quickly go down the staircase. The room below will be partly filled with lava, jump across the tables to reach the other side. Once on the other side, climb the staircase up and into a big room. Turn to your right and climb the raised platform. On the walls you'll see five 'elevators' going up and down. You'll need to jump from elevator to elevator to get to the exit door on the far side. Two of the elevators have steam coming down on top of them. If you stand on the far side of each elevator while you're riding it, you can avoid the steam. You need to move very quickly since the lava rises very fast and fills the room within a minute. Cross all the elevators and exit this level. The next level is much simpler, since you only have to fight the enemies, and find the exit. Enter the level and follow the only path open to you until you come to a room with three or four black knights and an archer sitting up in a balcony. Defeat the enemies before leaving this room. Once you climb the staircase, the lava starts and you have a limited amount of time to exit the level. Keep going along the only path available until you find a set of circular stairs. Wait here and defeat the few remaining demons (genie looking guys). If you don't defeat them now, they'll follow you to the next level and you'll have to contend with them along with Satan in his final form. You can look down through the grates in this floor to watch the lava rising. Once you've destroyed the last of the genies, exit this level via the circular staircase. You have now reached the top of the castle and Satan is once again waiting for you. Satan has a few different attacks while he's flying around. First, he'll fire a big ball at you which does great damage if it detonates near you. You can shoot this big ball to detonate it early, just make sure it's a good distance from you. When Satan has taken a certain amount of damage, he'll 'duplicate' himself and suddenly there will be two of them flying around. Try to keep track of which one is the real one since you don't want to waste your limited ammo on the duplicate. When Satan finally goes down, he'll crash to the ground in a big fireworks display. Once he is defeated, the door to the tower will open and the lava will rise very, very fast. You need to enter the tower and climb the stairs as fast as you possibly can or the lava will get you. At the top of the tower rests the final Bible piece and the portal to the church. Grab the Bible piece and jump through the portal to safety. Back in the church, you can go directly to the Priest and end the game, or you can look around town and talk to some of the townsfolk who will congratulate you for your victory; end of game. If you want, try beating the game on a higher difficulty setting, or simply go back and explore places in the various areas you've missed!
